Kudos to Recky and Dragon for putting me onto Matthew Reilly. I finished reading contest which wasn't too bad and I've just started the Jack West Jr books.

Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves - Matthew Reilly. Another top notch effort from Reilly. And now I have no ide what to read next...I struggle to read whatever book I start after reading one of his books, because they're always slower paced with less engaging characters.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan bio. was never one of my faves but didnt mind him. but watching his shoot and seeing his HOF speech made me appreciate him. and he can tell a good story.
Some bios come across as bitter old guys having a sook and trashing everyone they worked with, or guys making themselves sound bigger than what they were, but Hacksaw tells it pretty straight. Talks about guys he did and didnt get along with, but instead of having a long rant, says his piece then moves on. Talks about wrestling then and now, like guys today doing scripted promos where in his day it was all winging it.
Talks about Mid south and WWE, and some of the feuds he did, road stories, some funny, some not so, the usual ribs that were pulled and guys who went too far. Like the Nastys, and how they ran Outback Jack out of the company. talks openly about the rough schedule in the 80s, and the steroid issue, and Vince's trial.
then goes into the big story of him and Sheik getting busted and gives his side of the story. He does make it clear that he's making no excuses for what went down and to this day says it was still the dumbest thing he's ever done. Hacksaw feels even tho Vince brought him back and pushed him to a good level, the arrest and scandal was what kept him from ever being one of the main event guys.
Talks about his feelings on Luger doing the USA gimmick in 93 and why it didnt work, as well as his thoughts on some gimmicks like Akeem and Red Rooster.
Just up to where he left WWE and finding the story flows really well.
doesnt crap on endlessly about his childhood or football days, prob covers it in 20 or so pages, then gets into wrestling.
if anyone is thinking of getting it, do it. very good read and comes across as a likeable guy.

Enjoying this much more than I thought I would, maybe could have gone into a bit more depth in some areas, but so far so good.

WORST CASE by James patterson, with his newish superstar character...NY Det. Michael Bennett...one of the best detective characters I think ive read, Bennett is right up there with the writing family of Fay and Jonathon Kellerman who have L.A Det Harry Bosch and L.A ltn Det Pete Decker in their stable of characters..also both great reads if you like cop stories...AND i just knocked over james Patterson last Rizzoli & Isles novel "The Silent Girl"

Recky, have you read any Robert Crais? If not, I have a feeling you'd like his stuff, especially the Elvis Cole novels. He's a private detective in LA - good stories with plenty of guns, violence and witty comments.

oops meant to say on duggan book, it was Bulldogs who ran Outback Jack out of WWE, not Nastys. Tho Jim did have a few stories on how bad the Nastys were, especially Knobs. Gotta say, the more i read on this guy, the less i like.
finished Duggan book and its an awesome read. speaks very well and covers time in WCW, brief stint in TNA and general thoughts on wrestling. has a lot of interesting things to say on a lot of subjects and other people.

One Red Paper Clip. This Canadian guy, Kyle MacDonald talked about playing as game as kids called bigger and Better, where you'd trade something you have for something bigger and better. Then thought, why not do it now. So as a gag, to start, he traded a red paper clip with someone, and said he'd even travel to do the trade. it went on and on, meeting lots of interesting people along the way. the story spread like wildfire and he even did tv interviews on Good Morning America and radio i/v's here in Australia. some of the things he traded up to were a snowmobile, a recording contract, and a years free rent in Phoenix AZ. its a cool fun adventure and worth the read. picked it up at the Brisbane book fair for a measly $2
