Are you sure everything is gone? If you can still use the computer to browse everything may still be there. I remember when I was using XP I had a problem when I loaded the machine everything on the dekstop was gone and I couldn't access the Start button because that wasn't there either. It happened quite a bit and I never worked out why but to fix it all I did was completely kill the explorer.exe process then start it up again. (If it's not there manually start it) If you can access the Start menu follow these instructions and roll back to an earlier point that was working. www.windowsreinstall.com/winxphome/howto/lauchsystemrestore.htm

I think I know what's happened.
Please verify that you kept all data on desktop and my docs folder?
My gut says, your profile got corrupt.
Look in C:\documents and settings\ you should find your username folder there twice , but one with numbers or letters after it. Check your user name folders. I bet it's in there.
Get back to me please.

I'm looking for a KVM switch. I've just set up an old computer that I have had sitting here for ages unused and just want to run it for testing purposes. I don't want to make another complete station just want to run both PCs from the one keyboard, mouse, lcd while having audio. I did a search and came up with this one (Found it at $33) which should suit my needs but wondering if you could recommend one kek. www.dlink.com.au/products/?pid=517I've previously used a Belkin 4 port model and I'd like something similar with the simple touch buttons to change systems but minus the massive price.

If you'll be using USB keyboard and mouse, I would not go that one. Those ps2/usb adapters are fun to try an working out which work and which don't, bout as much fun as headbutting the wall. I've had too much issues with ps/2 ones working with USB, and besides, who the fuck has a ps2 keyboard and mouse still? If you are using ps2, I would still not get that one. This is actually the one I have. cgi.ebay.com.au/2-Port-USB-KVM-Keyboard-Monitor-VGA-Switch-Selector-/220665378255?pt=AU_Input_Peripherals&hash=item3360ae75cf
That isn't mine. Mine looks the same but also has audio. Mine also supports wireless usb keyboard/mouse. There are 2 usb ports also if you need one for each. (PS, don't forget about cables)

What's the best "free" antivirus. An old PC at home has come up with an array of nasty stuff. I'll get back to you.

AVG or Avlast, or Microsofts Security Essentials But to be honest, they cheap enough to buy these days. For about a 100-120, you'll get a 3 PC, 2 year license, with Kaspersky I believe.

Especially in the XP Days. yea, mine has audio, that one doesn't EDIT: i'm rather amazed I can't find my one. Loos like that link, but has audio. I didn't pay a fortune either. Shipped from hong kong This one is close but is missing the keyboard input which I need for my Wireless Mouse/Keyboard package. cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220646332087That small remote is one of the big selling points for me. The Aten Petite will do the job but the price is scaring me away. I'll keep looking

Did a system restore and fixed everything. Much appreciated guys. Guys, something you should understand about system restore. If you have this enabled, which I recommend, but get a virus, and the virus will be part of the system restore from that point on. So, if the virus is not picked up straight away, several copies of it could exist in system restore. To delete them, you disable system restore (make sure to hit apply), then enable it again.

Yeah, I'm well aware of that. It's still an easy way of bringing your system back to working order easily. Honestly never had a serious virus ever. As long as you're smart about things and have decent virus protection, regularly updated you should be fine.

I've only ever had 1 major virus issue about 10 years ago. I've cleaned many a system, where the user was on dodgy porn sites I don't have any anti virus on the mac. Don't really see the need at the moment.

Kekster, I'm pretty sure it was you that used to help me with this. Can't seed. Only get the yellow or blue faces at best with Vuze and my ratios are turning to shit.
