What was the first song you heard by them?
Fave songs/albums, any that mean alot to you cause of a certain situation, time in your life, etc?
Where do they sit among other bands from Aust/NZ?
Seen them in concert?
Over the journey, better at the start, better middle period, better modern albums?
Any other thoughts re Silverchair?

I thought they peaked with Neon Ballroom. It was an escape from the grunge-lite sound, what they were producing during the Frog Stomp and Freak Show albums.
I remember seeing documentaries on Nirvana, there were scenes with Seattle locals talking about magazines and television shows coming into town to talk to the people on the grass-roots level. They weren't so much interested in what they were listening to and the stories behind grunge-rock, but more so what they were wearing, what brands, what looks, etc. Stylized Grunge.
It was like Silverchair had picked up these magazines and said " right, we've got to look like this and dress like that and try to sound a little like The Stone Temple Pilots. "
Neon Ballroom was that evolution for Silverchair. It went more hard-rock and maybe even more experientially.
From there on, I remember hearing Johns talk about finding his " musical soul mate " in some over-the-top-gay DJ. Daniel Johns, I believe found more than his musical soul mate. The band was shit from then on out.

What was the first song you heard by them? Tomorrow
Fave songs/albums, any that mean alot to you cause of a certain situation, time in your life, etc? Like their first few albums, lost me little bit, then I did like the single Straight Lines but not so much the rest of the album. Fave songs would probably be The Door, Pure Massacre, Israels Son, Straight Lines.
Where do they sit among other bands from Aust/NZ? As far as populartity, they are right up there. NOt sure why, but they've retained a pretty loyal following. Personally, I don't think musically they are up there, as Johns has become a musical wanker instead of just rocking.
Seen them in concert? Yes, was a long time ago though, back in 99. Was a damn good show though.
Over the journey, better at the start, better middle period, better modern albums? Earlier stuff for me, nowadays Johns just tries too hard on being experimental and trying different shit.
Any other thoughts re Silverchair? I hope, seriously hope, that we get a genuine rock album from them at some point in the future. Probably won't, but would love them to go back to doing that.

What was the first song you heard by them? Tomorrow, hated it, thought it was very blah, meandered along with no real feel to it.
Fave songs/albums, any that mean alot to you cause of a certain situation, time in your life, etc? I like Pure Massacre, Israels Son, um thinks that's about it.
Where do they sit among other bands from Aust/NZ? Not very highly with me.
Seen them in concert? Nope.
Over the journey, better at the start, better middle period, better modern albums? Start easily, at least they had some punch to them then, instead of the drivel of the last few albums.
