So what do we think of the Alan Jones controversy?
Was it a private comment that shouldnt have been made public? Should there have been such a backlash? For those playing it down if this was said about a Liberal family by "the Left" would you be as accepting? If you were a sponsor would you stop supporting him? Do you think the backlash is 21 Century bullying? Do you find Alan Jones a victim in anyway?

I get really annoyed at people like Alan Jones or Kyle Sandilands making dumb ass comments then whining about freedom of speech or it was taken out of context or it was a private conversation. bottom line is, they make these comments for ratings, to get people talking. if they had to rely on talent they wouldnt last 5 minutes.
I'm no fan of Gillard, and personally i think the sooner she's voted out the better, but there are lines you just dont cross and 1 is family. Especially when that family member has died. I lost my dad a few years ago to cancer, so to make a comment about someones father dying is garbage and not needed. Notice how after he said it, Jones wanted Gillard on his show, coz he knew people would tune in and he'd get big ratings.
Would i stop sponsoring him if i was a sponsor? Yes coz its a pissweak effort by Jones. You could have attacked her for any number of reasons, her policies, her attitude, the boat people, the carbon tax, and nobody would have cared.

All for freedom of speech.. but there's a difference between freedom of speech and being a nob.

Oh, I think Jones is just doing some point scoring for his Lib buddies, but this is akin to sinking the boots in when someone is down... in this case down and greiving.
Deserves the smacking he's getting and if he defends it, looks more like a cunt, and a dumb cunt at that.
Free speech though... it's a tough one. We already have it watered down by the racial and religious tolerence law, but where does it stop? Fat people? Red heads? Gays? People's mothers? Dead relatives?
I love freedom of speech, but there can't be little asterisks that say freedom of speech is fine unless you talk about x and y.

I love freedom of speech, but there can't be little asterisks that say freedom of speech is fine unless you talk about x and y. I agree but on the flipside you cant say controversial things and then whine aboutcausing a controversy. It seems to me Alan Jones can dish it out but not take it. If this was said about Tony Abbott or John Howard and the speaker apologized do you think Alan Jones would have let it drop on his radio show by now? Im all for playing Devil advocate and not following the masses ubut I have always tried to disagree with humor or respect Alan Jones has none of that and going after a family member is disgusting and for him to try and play victim after stirring someone uplike that is truly pathetic. I hope he learns a lesson about respect. After years of not being called out on his ways I think he felt untouchable and went too far and now realizes he isnt untouchable and ended up lying about it. A weak act

i think most people on talkback radio are knobs anyway. Most of them are just trying to be shock jocks and saying anything to get a reaction, then whine they are being victimised.

It's some what funny we're talking about free speech straight after the labor disputes.. because I've always found in the real world ( outside of politics and the famous folks ) that those who are the biggest advocates of free speech are those who are well and truly up to date with their union agreement.
In saying that, I've never trusted a person who begins and statement with " By rights.. "
