I thought every week or so, I'd put up a category, and inmates could throw in their selections.
First up, songs that were played in the house while you were growing up. Whether you liked these songs or not, or it was your Mum, Dad, Grandparents, Brother, Sister or Dog playing them, what do you remember flowing through your home?
Livin' Next Door To Alice - Smokie Lay Your Love On Me - Racey Jailhouse Rock - Elvis Old Dogs And Children And Watermelon Wine - Tom T. Hall High On The Mountain Of Love - Charley Pride Fox On The Run - The Sweet Cracklin' Rosie - Neil Diamond I Was Made For Lovin' You - Kiss Fire And Rain - James Taylor Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

This is a hard one. My parents had Beatles records, Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, etc. But can't recall ever really hearing them on vinyl.
Us kids were into music from a young age, so we dominated the TV and stereo. We were big into Video Hits and Rage, so it was blend of Top 40 and alt-90s.
So my list is going to be a little different. 1992-1996 stands out, before I started to form my own tastes in music.
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit Soul Asylum - Runaway Train Gin Blossoms - Hey Jealousy RHCP - Under the Bridge Crash Test Dummies - Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Guns N' Roses - November Rain Ini Kamoze - Here Comes the Hotstepper Prince and The N.P.G. - Cream Collective Soul - Shine Inner Circle - Bad Boys

Hide Your Heart - Kiss - love triangle/gang violence. I love the line 'Tito looked for Johnny with a vengeance and a gun' That line explains the whole song.
Something To Believe In - Poison - amazingly written song that looks at homelessness, untruths told by those in power, losing a friend to drug addiction, the Vietnam war. It sounds way too much to cover, but it works. This song always leaves me with things to think about.
Uncle Toms Cabin - Warrant - a boy and his Uncle are fishing and see the Sheriff and his Deputy thrown 2 bodies in the swamp.
Hey God - Bon Jovi - if there is a God, why do so many bad things happen?
Dry County - Bon Jovi - a story of oil and gold in the Old West.
2 Beds And A Coffee Machine - Savage Garden - a woman taking herself and her kids away from an abusive husband. Very moving song.
Tennesee Line - Daughtry - feeling that pang of regret that when you break up with someone, you have those memories dancing in your head, have you made the right move?
Night Moves - Bob Seger - fumbling your way through your teen years, discovering girls and sex.
Rain On The Scarecrow - John Cougar Mellencamp - a battle between a bank and a farmer.
Piano Man - Billy Joel - I love the simplicity of a guy sitting in a bar, playing piano, looking at people, some of who are strangers, some of who are friends.

I don't know if I've got time to write down 10 songs. I love a good song that sounds good and gets me in but to have longevity it's got to have some sort of meaning or something the listener can weave their own way. When a song makes me listen closely and think is a song I'll enjoy my entire life.
I'm a huge fan of Serj Tankian (Lead singer of System of a Down) a lot of his lyrics match my own beliefs and he's a terrific song writer. A few that grab me.
Feed Us Honking Antelope Borders Are... (Fitting song for our upcoming election) Peace Be Revenged Left of Centre Harikari
I've only really discovered Tool's 10,000 Days album in recent months and love it. Wings For Marie/10,000 Days is an amazing track, grabbed me straight away. Doing more research into it the 2 songs are connected to two other tracks Jimmy and Judith (A Perfect Circle) It's all about Maynard's Mother who died when he was young. Mourning, Anger, blame, forgiveness it's amazing.
Who could go past Imagine by John Lennon. A song written over 40 years ago and it still can relate to the current world we live in.

Most of these take me back to about the age of 12-15. Everything from 16 onwards was Punk and Nu Metal and Hip-Hop till about the age of 25.
And it's only from about 25 onwards, I begun to really appreciate bands like Oasis ( more so ) The Verve, Pearl Jam, STP, Soundgarden, Nirvana, grunge and Alt. Rock as a whole, etc.
Oasis - Wonderwall. Alanis Morissette - Ironic. No Doubt - Don't Speak. Blackstreet - No Diggity. Everything but the Girl - Missing. Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life. Fastball - The Way. Marcy Playground - Sex & Candy. Everclear - Santa Monica. Weezer - Buddy Holly ( Win95 promo CD-ROM! )
The list could go on and on..
Ben Fold's Five - Brick Fuel - Shimmer / Sunburn... one of my all time favorites. 1998!
