In this poll are the songs which hit #1 in Australia during 1980. They are listed in the order they happened, so each song was knocked off by the song below it.
Can't believe some of the garbage that made #1, what were people thinking?
But some classics there too.
So what's the best of the bunch for you? What makes you cringe? What else do you like from the list? Any memories of these songs from that time in your life? Any thoughts on the video for the song?
Other years will go into poll mode over the coming weeks and months.

I'll take the Buggles, just ahead of Queen and Split Enz. Was only 3 in 1980, so no real memories of it at all.
Shaddap You Face...what were people thinking?

I went 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' by Queen, as it may be my fave song by them. I like the groove of it.
I also like the songs by Michael Jackson, KC And The Sunshine Band, Split Enz and Village People.
'I Got You', the video used to freak me out when I was 8. Where the band were in a painting but then they started moving, like the painting had come alive. And those freaky hairstyles Split Enz had and the weird facial expressions, whatta bunch of kooks.
'Shaddup Your Face', I have no words to say how much I hate that 'song'.

I went "Don't stop 'til you get enough". Only started to appreciate pre-Thriller MJ after his death, and this is one of his great ones.

Thanks boys for the endorsement. Hope to see other inmates pop in with their votes and thoughts. Or those who have posted, add another 2 cents. Glad to see no one has voted Joe Dolce

What song/s was number 2 while Joe Dolce was stinking up the top spot? Wouldn't you be spitting that you missed out on a number one hit because of that shit.

The best of the rest. This info from wiki.
Songs peaking at number two included "Xanadu" by Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" by Pink Floyd "Brass in Pocket" by The Pretenders "What I Like About You" by The Romantics "Dreaming My Dreams with You" by Colleen Hewett "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by Long John Baldry and Kathi MacDonald "Babooshka" by Kate Bush "Coming Up" by Paul McCartney.
Other hits (with their peak positions noted) were "Space Invaders" by Player One (3), "Ashes to Ashes" by David Bowie (3) "He's My Number One" by Christie Allen (4) "Call Me" and "The Tide is High" by Blondie (4) "Blame It on the Boogie" by The Jacksons (4) "Shandi" by KISS (5).
Hits by Australasian artists included "Magic" by Olivia Newton-John "People" by Mi-Sex "No Secrets" by The Angels "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC "Can't Help Myself" and "We Can Get Together" by Flowers.
I hate anything by Pink Floyd, so dreary. While not as dreary, I don't like anything by The Pretenders either.
'What I Like About You', that's a cool song. 'Ashes To Ashes', another video that scared me, all those ghostly figures, Bowie dressed as some sort of warped clown. I like the song though, maybe the only Bowie track I give the thumbs up.
'Blame It On The Boogie', gold, so funky. 'Shandi', I still love it. 'No Secrets', nice chunk of rock. Same for 'You Shook Me All Night Long'. I always liked The Flowers/Icehouse and those 2 songs are no exception.

As much as i love Queen... Diana Ross - Upside Down is a guilty pleasure of mine Overall, 1980 sucked, and things didnt get better until 83 or so.

Rayth, you don't like Brass in Pocket? I reckon that's a cool song. If it wasin the poll, I would've voted for it.

Rayth, you don't like Brass in Pocket? I reckon that's a cool song. If it wasin the poll, I would've voted for it. I have to admit it's got a good groove but I've never popped when it's come on Music Max. Unlike say, a song from the same era in 'Blame It On The Boogie'.
