First song you heard by them?
Fave songs/albums? Not Enough Time Need You Tonight Devil Inside
Seen them in concert? Yeah, a couple of times. Always 2 hours + on stage, and great value
Who would you say they sound like? Hutchence used to try to channel jim Morrison, unsuccessfully, but in doing so, created his own sound.
Where do they stand among other Australian bands? Right up there. Cracked the US market, and had a couple of massive albums
Any other thoughts on Inxs? They were probably on the downswing when Hutchence died. I think it's fair to say their best was well and truly behind them at that stage

First song you heard by them? Stay Young
Fave songs/albums? Albums - Shabooh Shoobah, Underneath The Colours Songs – Just Keep Walking, Fair Weather Ahead, Original Sin
Seen them in concert? Yes, 1988 Kick Tour at the Entertainment Centre
Who would you say they sound like? I suppose The Rolling Stones & The Doors, Hutchence was a curious satage persona mix of Jagger & Morrison. Early on they were quite punk/ska influenced, with a bit more melody & song writing. Really liked those early albums.
Where do they stand among other Australian bands? Right at the top IMO. Superior to Cold Chisel & Midnight Oil, IMO.
Any other thoughts on Inxs? Damn shame we lost M. Hutchence, he was a bit of a hero of mine.

First song you heard by them? Original Sin I think.
Fave songs/albums? Never Tear Us Apart may be my fave song of all time. Also like Need You Tonight, Original Sin, What You Need, Kiss The Dirt, Good Time with Jimmy Barnes.
Seen them in concert? Nope.
Who would you say they sound like? A pop band trying to be a rock band. At times, they were just too light for me. I recognise their quality, but I never found myself rushing to hear anything new that they had done.
Where do they stand among other Australian bands? Very high, right up with any you want to name.
Any other thoughts on Inxs? I liked Pretty Vegas and Perfect Strangers when JD Fortune was with them.

I got the feeling in the early '80's Aussies were treated like musical 'tards on the world stage. Hutchence wrote & performed songs that were a much more sophisticated & cool than we as a country were usually known for. We had bogan rock like AC/DC, Cold Chisel & Rose Tatoo, great bands but INXS brought a more mature melodic sound of Aussie rock. So for that M.H. (& INXS) is a musical hero of mine.
