I think of the Chris Rock line talking about the old argument of who was better between Prince or Michael Jackson.
Prince won.
Kind of like the Megadeth/Metallica comparison. One wrote catchier hooks & songs & the other wrote better songs/albums & was more consistent over a longer period of time.

Big Prince fan here. Have all his albums and often have some Prince on in the background as I go about my buisness.
Some of his B-sides are fantastic. Would highly recommend that triple disc set Hits/B sides. the B sides are almost as good a listen as the hits. He is off the wall, and I am somewhat amazed that he was able to be as mainstream as he was, given his style and penchant for funk over what is more acceptable. Then there is the subject matter.

More serious side - Papa
Diamond in the rough - 17 days.

I was a small time fan.
But HBM here raved about him so I've delved deeper than the well known hits & he's spot on.
I've got that 3CD Hits & B Sides set.
The B Sides are excellent & not overplayed.
Very sophisticated & sexy (just like HBM)

Purple Rain album is a top one, sure.

Computer Blue - I think it brought on puberty to be honest
Darling Nikki - such a raunchy song, awesome too.

I'd rate him higher than Michael Jackson.
He's right up there.

He's always had a good eye for women.

Very sophisticated & sexy (just like HBM) You know how to get yourself exalted, dontcha!!! If you're looking for possibly the best Prince album, I'd go Sign O the times. Nothing particularly standout, but just a quality double album. If you give it a few listens, you'll like it. |

First song you heard by him? I think it was Controversy, very funky, very cool. And still is to this day.
Fave songs/albums? Never bought an album of his but I do love alot of his singles, with Lets Go Crazy being among my fave songs by any artist. Also love When Doves Cry and 1999.
Where does he rate among 80s pop icons? As good as anyone you wanna name, Jackson, Madonna, whoever.
Any other thoughts on Prince? I think he would have put on one helluva concert.

Favourite Song: Little Red Corvette! Often gets looked over in favour of purple rain, 1999, Diamonds & Pearls etc but LRC is a CLASSIC!
