First song you heard by them?
Fave songs/albums?
Better or worse than others of thier era Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth?
Has Kurt Cobain been made out to be more than he was, just cause he took his own life at a young age?
Any other thoughts on Nirvana?

First song you heard by them?
Smells like Teen Spirit. Of course, I was barely 8 years old at the time, but god damn, even then you knew it was a great song.
They used to play the number one song on ABC at approx. 5.55pm every night, after the classic ABC 5pm line-up. Smells like Teen Spirit pretty much was on every night for about 3 weeks.
Fave songs/albums?
Nevermind. I like the entire album. So does every one. I'm not a huge fan of In Utero. I found it messy. I guess thats the point. Myth has it, Cobain had a much rawer version of the album in production. Courtney Love claims it would have changed the world again, but company execs said it sounded like shit. In the state Cobain was in, I'm learning towards sounding like shit.
Smells like Teen Spirit, may be ' overrated ', but I think thats got to do with the massive amount of air-pay it still gets, that and when anyone thinks of Nirvana they think ' Smells like Teen Spirit ' but it's still to this day, a very very good song.
Better or worse than others of thier era Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth?
Hard to say. Nirvana and bands like Soundgarden & Pearl Jam were such different bands. It's like comparing Guns N' Roses to Poison. Both hair-metal bands from the LA Club scene, but totally different bands and sounds.
I think Pearl Jam would have to be the better band. They're music was always much more accessible to different demographics. While Nirvana was ' generation x ' Pearl Jam have proven they can reach kids in their teens to middle aged Mums and Dads.
Has Kurt Cobain been made out to be more than he was, just cause he took his own life at a young age?
Without a doubt. Is Tupac the same, hell yes. He was an average rapper, but just had way too much to say and the willingness to run his mouth non-stop.
Kurt Cobain has become glorified. And probably up until the early part of his last decade, was seen as some sort of Christ like figure in music. Today, I think he's view much more as a tragic artist. Fortunately most of Gen-X are well into their 30s and 40s and haven't got time to argue about figures in grunge music. Nor care.

apart from a passing likeability for Smells like teen spirit, Nirvana did nothing for me....Pearl jam are far superior in every aspect, all i really want to know is why it took so long for Cobane to do us all the favor he did us

First song you heard by them?
Smells Like Teen Spirit I think.
Fave songs/albums?
Fave Song Frances Farmer Album Nevermind (In Utero very close second)
Better or worse than others of thier era Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth?
I rate Pearl Jam above them but I think they paved the way for a lot of bands and probably did so much more for the industry than any of them.
Has Kurt Cobain been made out to be more than he was, just cause he took his own life at a young age?
Nirvana were huge and I have not seen popularity like that since then or ever really. When Cobain died there were so many people at school in tears and it felt like the world had stopped. Nirvana finished suddenly and they were on top. It's hard to make him or the band out any less than what they were at the time. So no, I don't think he has.
Any other thoughts on Nirvana?
I always think what might have been with Nirvana. It would have been really cool to see if they could evolve like Pearl Jam has. I'm not convinced they could have but it would have been nice to see.

Word has it Gog, that Nirvana were headed for splitsville anyway. Cobain was quoting in saying he'd rather write music he could play in 10, 20, 30 years that were little more than his voice and a guitar than continually putting out alt-rock albums. And potentially in saying that, fading away.

I always wonder what could've been with Nirvana. Maybe they would've broken up, maybe they would've evolved. Would Dave Grohl have gotten more say? Would some Foo Fighter classics have seen the light of day if Curt was still alive?

First song you heard by them? Teen Spirit
Fave songs/albums? Lithium, Come As You Are.
Better or worse than others of thier era Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth? Most of them do nothing for me, too dreary for my tastes. I do like some Soundgarden songs though. Pearl Jams body of work is quality.
Has Kurt Cobain been made out to be more than he was, just cause he took his own life at a young age? At the time, yes. I heard about it and went Oh. And that was about it. But then the God like status he was given. Thought it was a bit too much.
