Have you watched it since Season 1, picked up along the way, or watched a few eps and wondered what your friends and family were raving about all this time?
Fave characters?
Fave storyline?
It's been called among the best current shows on tv. Agree or disagree?
Do you think Dexter will ever be found out by Deb and/or his workmates?
Anything else you wanna add re Dexter?

I thought the entire show looked completely gay when it first came out. There were these promos running with Dexter spinning around talking about being " good & evil " and all this dribble. And because of that, never gave it the time of day.
I caught up with the re-runs a few years later and enjoyed it. And continued watching up until last season.
I'm over it now, I think it's run it's course and has become some what predictable in a sense, like all heroes.. Dexter will win by season's end, some what. I think only then will the final season pull me back in, hoping that his identity is revealed.
As for being one of the best shows on television, it's hard to say. For every show thats called " the best show on television " they don't rate, and/or are on cable and/or no one watches them. The Wire, The Shield, Breaking Bad, Oz, etc, etc.. So it's hard to call it one of the best shows on TV when it never really, truly breaks out from being a cult success.

Well I started from Episode 1 but I think it was almost at the end of Season 2 when I started.
Fave characters?
I love the Dexter character. I really wish there was someone out there like him. Some people don't deserve to breath the air the Earth provides.
Trinity was brilliant. The guy gave me chills. Lithgow deserves the accolades he got for this role.
Miguel Prado was good value in season 3.
Masuka is always good for a laugh as well.
Fave storyline?
Easily the whole Trintiy killer storyline in Season 4. As I said Lithgow was brilliant and it was a series when I was just itching to watch the next week. Fantastic finish to it as well.

IMO I'd agree. There is so many Police shows a person can take, while this one is kind of a police show as well it's got a nice twist to it that makes it different from the rest.
Do you think Dexter will ever be found out by Deb and/or his workmates?
It has to end at some point and it will either be that he loses his "Dark Passenger" or he gets caught. He came close to being caught in Season 5 and his sloppy kills in that series may bring him undone in Season 6.

I didn't watch it immediately. Wasn't til Showtime was free for a month on Foxtel that I caught a few eps. Thought it had a diff spark than any other show I'd seen. Season 1 dvd set was on special, so thought I'd grab it. I think I watched all 12 eps within 2 days. Loved it ever since.
Fave characters? I like the way Dexter juggles his life, with work, family and satisfying his dark passenger.
Rita was strong, yet vulnerable at the same time.
I liked Doakes in Season 1, never fully trusting Dexter, but never able to nail down what he was up to.
Season 2, Lila was hot and evil, a potent combination.
Miguel Prado through Season 3 looked a likely ally for Dexter, but alas no.
Trinity in Season 4 was superb, Lithgow was very eerie.
But of them all, Lumen in Season 5 was my fave. I know nothing of acting, but Julia Stiles was superb, going from scared to vengeful to looking forward.
Fave storyline? Dexter finally finding a kindred spirit in Lumen, and sharing the burden of his dark passenger.
It's been called among the best current shows on tv. Agree or disagree? Agree, it's my fave show in many years. Like Gav said, cop shows are frickin' everywhere. I don't watch them, they're all the same. Dexter has it's own flavour cause it's not simply a cop solving a murder every week.
Also agree with Gav that knocking off murderers, rapists and such, is not a bad thing. Why should they live in prison with a roof over their heads, 3 meals a day and a chance to walk in the world, when the families of their victims, have to suffer the pain and loss of a loved one every day?
Do you think Dexter will ever be found out by Deb and/or his workmates? I hope not, he's doing the world a service. I'd like the show to run a few more seasons yet.

I just gave this a try last week. Watched the first 3 eps, and it's not something I found to be up my alley. Don't like the character, so that's the end of it for me.

I know part of Dexter's character is meant to be isolated and emotionless. Yet, outside the need to kill, he remains rather boring and uninteresting. You can't mistake dry delivery and a void of human emotion for charisma or a calm-intensity ( if that were the case, Lance Storm would be a star ) imo the show survives on his clash with the usually ultra-charismatic, some times enigmatic and diverse villains rather than a potential likability or support for the central character.
