In this poll are the songs which hit #1 in Australia during 1981. They are listed in the order they happened, so each song was knocked off by the song below it.
Can't believe some of the garbage that made #1, what were people thinking?
But some classics there too.
So what's the best of the bunch for you? What makes you cringe? What else do you like from the list? Any memories of these songs from that time in your life? Any thoughts on the video for the song?
Other years will go into poll mode over the coming weeks and months.

I went Billy Field's 'You Weren't In Love With Me', I actually surprised myself by doing so as I haven't heard it in years.
Nearly went 'Start Me Up' by the Stones as I love that one.
'Bette Davis Eyes' has a cool feel.
Geez, I hate 'Duncan', just a very weak song.
Olivia looked highly rootable in the video for 'Physical'.

The last 3 are the only ones I can recall ever hearing.
Of those, Men at Work "Down Under" should be our national anthem ;D

I went for Lennon's Starting Over. Love the way he pays homage to Elvis in the way he sings on this one

Rick Springfield for me (not because of ZOOT) but the song is pretty good. Adam Ant was a close second.

82 was when the music started getting really good, so look forward to the next installment Rayth.

As a kid I was force-fed a lot of country music by my mum, so I'm going with Duncan. I'm noticing a pattern though, that music I like Rayth hates...
Love Jessie's Girl and Start Me Up as well. Use to like Down Under, but at this point I never want to hear it again. Overplayed to the max. The rest range from okay to meh to 'fuck off he's in there again' (Joe Dulce).

Of the songs that didn't quite crack the top spot, I like the ones by Loverboy, Phil Collins, Carly Simon, Divinyls and Swanee.

Which clip was done there? Duncan by Slim Dusty was shot at the Town n Country. What did everyone else think of the songs that didn't quite reach the top spot?
