In this poll are the songs which hit #1 in Australia during 1982. They are listed in the order they happened, so each song was knocked off by the song below it.
So what's the best of the bunch for you? What makes you cringe? What else do you like from the list? Any memories of these songs from that time in your life? Any thoughts on the video for the song?
Other years will go into poll mode over the coming weeks and months.

Some great songs amongst that lot - Soft Cell, J Geils, Joan Jett, Flock of Seagulls, Survivor, Dexy's, Culture Club...all great tunes. Hell I even loved Toni Basil's Mickey at the time.
But I'm giving my vote to Moving Pictures. 'What about Me', awesome song sung by a great voice, that still stands up today.

Agreed Dragon, it's a tough group. I went 'I Ran' by Flock Of Seagulls, it's my all time fave wuss boy song. I can't argue if someone says it sounds very poncey, but I still love it. The floaty keyboard intro, the drums and bass get the foot tapping, then the well known guitar parts kick in. Great stuff, a very groovy pop tune.
Dragons right, "What About Me" is still a great song 30 years on, good angst in the vocals.
I also liked Lindsey Buckingham "Trouble", beautiful song. Soft Cell "Tainted Love" The keyboards rock. Survivor "Eye Of The Tiger", don't know anyone who doesn't like this song. And if they do, I don't want to know them. Culture Club "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?", I liked alot of their stuff actually.
Where I will disagree is that words cannot express how much I fn hate that garbage by Dexys Midnight Runners. J Geils won't get any love on my playlist either.

went with Moving pictures cause i was right in the midst of my reck'n'roll ness...working hard, playing hard, going to pub rock venues couple of nights a week...I went to an Aussie Crawl show, who surpisingly played very heavy live as did MP...stunned me totally when Alex and the boys damn near took the top of my head off with a live show that was tops...so yeah, The Pics get my vote

I'm a big Culture Club fan, but Do You Really Want To Hurt Me is one of their worst songs for me.
So i went Steve Miller Band - Abracadabra. Quality song, which i still play regularly.

Some awesome songs in this batch, but I went with Éye of theTiger' just in front of "Tainted Love" Those are 2 contrasting choices. A bit like myself where I went 'I Ran', and 'Eye Of The Tiger' would have been the next pick. Songs peaking at number 2 included "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls "Key Largo" by Bertie Higgins "Believe It or Not" (Theme from The Greatest American Hero by Joey Scarbury) "If You Want My Love" by Cheap Trick "Our Lips Are Sealed" by The Go-Go's "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" by Split Enz "Shy Boy" by Bananarama "Ebony and Ivory" by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. Other hits (with peak positions shown), included "Waiting For a Girl Like You" (3) by Foreigner "Young Turks" (3) by Rod Stewart "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" (4) by Melissa Manchester "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" (4) by Chicago "Hurts So Good" (5) by John "Cougar" Mellencamp. Hits by Australasian artists included "Forever Now" by Cold Chisel, "Body and Soul" by Jo Kennedy "Solid Rock" by Goanna "Great Southern Land" by Icehouse "Dirty Creature" by Split Enz "Down on the Border" by Little River Band "Lady, What's Your Name" by Swanee. Survivor's hit "Eye of the Tiger" was the best charting single of the year.

Cheap Trick gets a tick from me, as do the Go-Go's, Foreigner and John Cougar Mellencamp. And everytime I hear the theme from Greatest American Hero...I think of George Costanza's answering machine message. Believe it or not, George isn't at home. Absolutely hate Solid Rock by Goanna, makes me want to smash the radio whenever it comes on.

Foreigner, so many good songs, this among their best.
Only other one I really like from the above is from Icehouse, but it's been flogged to death.
Agree Dragon on George's answering machine. I love where he's at home on the couch, the phone rings, but instead of answering it, he lets the machine get it just so he can hear his inventive intro message. That's the George we know and love.

You know it mate. I was glued to the tv as a kid watching Countdown, but thanx to an older brother who got me into some cooler music, i started seeing whats out there. 80's and 90s you could go to a pub gig in Adelaide for $13-$17. I saw Chisel, Skyhooks when they reformed in 90, Noiseworks, Johnny Diesel, Angels, Thorpie, Kings of The Sun, Choirboys etc. go and have a cheap feed first, sink a few beers (not that i drink anymore), play some 8 ball, then go and rock out.
